Hi Zephyrgal, and thanks for the suggestion. The only thing is I don't remember the previous owner saying they bloomed. I received these in September of last year and they had no blooms or evidence of blooms on them at that time. Are there any varieties that don't bloom or at least not a substantial flower? Everything I found under google search for Escallonia showed flowers.

It appears to be a form of Euonymus japonicus, perhaps a more erect and dense growing cultivar like 'Green Spire'.

Euonymus is what came to my mind right away too.

Thank you both. I wondered about Euonymus but I'm not that familiar with it. The same lady also gave me a golden euonymous so that might be likely.
