It won't help them. And likely they don't need it.

Have you had a soil test done to determine if phosphorus would be helpful?

in my opinion... without a soil test indicating that something is lacking..

again.. in my opinion ... SHRUBS NEVER.. EVER.. NEED FOOD...

they are shrubs.. not children ...

and to add to that.. spikes are.. in my opinion.. are useless ...

save your money.. and spend it on more garden plants.. shrubs just do not need all the TLC you are providing ... you are on the verge of loving them to death....

fertilizer stakes = snake oil (their benefit is mainly to the wallet of the company selling them to you.)

Woody plants should ONLY be fertilized when a soil test, or possibly symptoms, indicate the need for some nutrient (not really food).

Phosphorus overdose is toxic. P does not leach very fast at all, over-fertilized soil pretty much has to be dug out and taken away.

I had my soil tested and they recommended i add lime and triple superphosphate to the soil. i asked since i bout some and it said it can be used on shrubs.

hjones,
If you had the soil tested, buy the fast acting lime and follow directions on package, and then add triple superphosphate per directions for shrubs on package.
Take out the spikes and throw them out.
Are you in South Carolina?
Do you live in sand city? LOL, my soil is very sandy.
Follow the directions from the soil test and see how the shrubs do.
