| I picked up a Hamamelis x intermedia 'Arnold Promise'. Perfect little specimen.
For the space I have two spots and can't decide. What is your vote? Home A:
Home B:
I'm thinking A because I can control the water but I can't control the winter wind. |

| You can control the wind by planting a small hedge outside the drip line. Is that a possibility? I'm not lucky enough to have tried a witch hazel yet, and have only seen them in sheltered spots near buildings, maybe because they're transitional plants that occur naturally near woodland edges. Are you interested in creating that look on your property? Can you amend the sandy soil (not just in the planting hole, but in the entire planting bed/area) of A? Once established, will it need supplemental water? Unless we get another drought, then everything will need water anyway. Any chance you can post pics? I always like your plant choices. Congratulations on your new addition! :) |

| You think good. |

| Thank you...I ended up pulling a fast one on myself and planted it somewhere else that originally had different plans. Its a happy medium between the two original locations. Man that little bugger was pot bound. Its almost impossible to find container grown plants that aren't. I don't mind as much with shrubs I guess. PG, I have 'Jelena' and 'Girard's Purple' that seem to be doing well. I'm a sucker for this genus if you can find a symmetrical crown. The winter silhouettes are look great then. Tack on the blooms, leaf texture and fall color...you have something that competes with Viburnums. |

| I really love the leaf texture, they look as though they've been stamped out. Do they not take well to pruning (to create a more symmetrical crown) if necessary? I don't have room for one now, I pulled the trigger on a serviceberry instead. Another nice choice, but I'm still envious. Moved it from a corner of the yard to a prominent spot as anchor of the last bed. Well, maybe it's just the latest bed. Hee,hee. Where did you put all of yours, in a grouping or what? |
