I'd expect that your is simply Gardenia jasminoides, rather than an 'improved' cultivar of the species. A couple of the more common cultivars are G.j. 'Veitchii' and G.j. 'Mystery'.

Likely it is Gardenia j. as most others aren't found here. There are ~ dozen named varieties of Gardenia j. that are readily available. All, IMHO, are a floral improvement over the original in that they generally last longer or are double, but the original is ~more hardy. There is a possibility yours may be 'Mystery', but I'd wager not.

When I had my landscape design business, I'd try to tuck in at least one on each job and I wish we could grow them in Colo.

I WANT AN OLD FASHIONED GARDENIA BUSH THAT HAS MANY LEAFED FLOWERS WITH A STRONG PERFUME SCENT; WE HAD THEM IN CENTRAL N.C. WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, AND THE CULTIVARS I NOW HAVE IN GA. DO NOT HAVE THE WONDERFUL STRONG SCENT, NOR FULLNESS OF BLOOM AS THE OLD FASHIONED ONES DID. ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD ORDER SOME OF THOSE AS DESCRIBED?
