Shrub Leaf ID

early last spring I dug up a shrub that was supposedly a Mock Orange (Philadelphus coronarius), or so the woman whose yard it was in thought.

Despite being dug up with a large rootball and only very small leaves starting, the shrub did not survive the transplant, and pretty much all of it was cut off and clearly dead.

This spring there is some growth sprouting from the remains. I'm trying to identify it before I make a decision to dig it up or keep it and let it regrow. The leaves don't quite look like the images of Philadelphus I find when I search. The edges I see are smooth instead of serrated like in the images.

try the botanists at the NAME THAT PLANT FORUM ...

should we fail here ..

for you ... i went out and looked at my 2 ... they have a serrated edge ... if that is the right term ... but i do not know if that is definitive ..

it looks vaguely familiar.. but i dont know ....

Thanks guys....and Ken, you are so nice to go hiking all the way around your estate to look at your two!

They does look really close; I'll post it on the Mame That Weed forum and see what they say.

and i would like to take credit for being so magnanimous.. but i needed a cigarette.. and they are right out the back door ...lol

with the fragrance.. one sites this properly.. but not very far from the deck ... lol

BTW ... mine are the poorly variegated one ... and the giant flowered one ... i dont know the latin names ... mabye later i will need to go back out there...
