I'll be moving into a new home shortly and the current foundation shrubs are overgrown, spaced, and trimmed unevenly. I was thinking of pulling them up and replacing them with winter gem boxwoods or something similar. My fiance however wants something that will flower in the spring/summer yet retain its leaves during the winter. The area in which they will be planted is partial to full shade. Will rhododendrons remain full in the winter or is there a better option? I surely don't want barren shrubs along my foundation. Your opinions are greatly appreciated, Thanks!

when you get there.. snap us a pic.. of the barren scape.. and perhaps we can make some suggestions.. but basically as of right now.. you want us to give you a list of every spring/summer flowering shrub which is evergreen ... that will thrive in shade ... check out the link and be sure to understand.. that foundation plantings are planted 5 to 10 feet from the foundation.. to HIDE the foundation.. not on the foundation ... as you probably can understand with what you will be removing ... so remove the old.. build a bed.. and plant in the next proper planting season for your area.. which i probably late fall ... plenty of time to work and plan ... ken

Camellias?

A mix of evergreen and deciduous would be lovely. Azaleas, hydrangea, camellias, viburnum, rhododendron (I don't have too much luck with these, but I keep trying) and kalmia will give you blooms throughout three seasons. You can toss in a couple of boxwood, too, but make sure you get some that don't need full sun. Of course, you need to decide what will go with your house. Pictures would help.
