I planted one in 2008 and it did great till the fall of 2010 when two of its five main branches died. Last year two more died. I now have only one branch left. I don't know what happened. At the end of the last two Falls the leaves just turned brown and the branches died.
The one remaining branch has leafed out beautifully this year, but experience tells me that doesn't mean anything. Since the ones that died did the same, yet a few months later were completely dead.
It is planted in sandy loam in almost full sun. Gets watered when it should. Other shrubs in the area, all doing well, are sambucus black lace, heptacodium, viburnum (sp), plus a mixture of perennials.
It looks a little strange with just one branch, and I'm not sure whether it is worth saving. I do really like the form and color, but still ...
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on with this?
