Plans changed -shrubs to go with Bobo

I ended up coming home with 2 Bobo hydrangeas instead of Little Limes. The grouping of shrubs will be the 2 Bobos along with yet to be decided shrubs - one 3x3 or 3x4 and then 5 smaller shrubs. For the 5, I was thinking of a smaller weigela - Pink Poppet or other. For the one, I was thinking something that flowers at a different time or a different leaf color (back to Little Devil ninebark) or another hydrangea. Is there a small lilac and, if so, would that work?

Desperate for suggestions.

'Miss Kim', 'Tinkerbelle', 'Palibin' and 'Bloomerang' are all good dwarf lilac versions that I have had really good results with. 'Bloomerang' hasn't been out for long but seems to be doing very well for the two years I have followed it. The others have already more than proved themselves as great plants.
There are some REALLY cool Nandina varieties out now that you may consider too. I saw 'Tuscan Flame' about a month ago for the first time and it was striking for a 2-3' range plant.

I don't think nandina grow in this area. I'll check out the lilacs you mentioned. Barberry, weigela, and ninebark are the only things I can think of that grow here that have colored leaves.
