No way to know what is wrong with forsythias with the information provided. A guess based on the small amount of info provided would be they are being pruned at the wrong time. Dan

I have never pruned them yet, I have mulch around them .Idon't know if a change in the weather can have an effect on them or not

I've had issues with my Forsythias over the last (2) years. Thay all get good sun, but over the last (2) years ... My New Hampshire Gold forsythias didn't bloom either year. All of these plants are all, at least, 5 years old. I think that it's just a weather thing. They've all, (except for the Northern Golds's), bloomed beautifully before.

what zone?? mine had their best year ever .... and i think it was because it got so warm.. so fast.. i think mine are susceptible to frosts or freezes killing the flowers in normal years ... ken

It depends on the variety...many buds can be killed off, some don't bloom entirely. Other cultivars have zone 4 hardy buds, for example 'Fiesta'...it bloomed heavily the last 2 years for me.

When you have such an early-blooming shrub, esp one that blooms on second-year wood, it can be an issue in Z4-5 when you get spring storms like what we got here today. The BH just had to have a bridal wreath spiraea and late freezes ensure we get decent bloom about every 5th year (hoping for this year). So that's the risk. With the OP, we have no idea where the location is to get the zone, so its a crapshoot. At any rate, in Z4-5, it's all about the weather. Choose a variety that does well in that particular area, as determined by consistent bloom over the years on an established plant in the nearby neighborhood. Take a cutting-root a branch. Dan
