First, there is no need to hire a professional organization to spray for aphids - in fact, I highly recommend against it. First, aphids can be controlled through some very simple and benign methods any homeowner can observe. Second, professional sprays often involve some pretty needlessly toxic chemical that will alter the natural order to the extent that they will kill off any beneficial predators, like ladybugs. Not to mention messing with bees and birds.

No need to call anyone. This is not a big deal. What your barberries experienced is phytotoxicity or a combination of chemicals and sun burning plant tissue. It is very common and seldom fatal. Just keep the plants sufficiently irrigated and they will produce a new flush of foliage. In a few weeks, you'll never know there was any damage.

And ditch the spraying company -- so unnecessary and a needless expense!!
