Hi B-mom. Mine is in almost full sun (sunrise to 3-4pm) and does fine. Clay soil but not planted where the water lays. In GA you conditions will be different.

Not too fast growing, it also is really sensitive to late frosts.
The remarkable thing about the tree here is the extreme lackadaisical attitude it has to leafing out. Some of the buds are just peeking out with a tiny bit of green, but some of the other buds have bloom (such that it is). Where ever you plant it, do not prune it until early summer because it is hard to tell what is dead and what is just waiting to leaf out.

Thanks so much for the reply and the suggestions! I actually ended up planting it where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade, and it is on a hill, so it won't sit in water at all. I purchased it on-line from Mail Order Natives down in Florida, and I asked the owner about her suggestions re location before I made the decision. The 2 plants that I received from her were so awesome looking too. They were much larger than I had anticipated and in such good condition. I hope it does well. I am really hoping for Giant and Tiger Swallowtail butterfly eggs. :o)
