Weigela reseeding -- how bad?

My sis is considering putting a Weigela or two in a large backyard bed. Now being that they're plants afterall, I realize some reseeding is likely if not inevitable. But there are reseeders and then there are reseeders (as anyone with a silver maple can attest). So how rampant a reseeder do Weigela tend to be?

Yep. Never a seedling for me either.

Nor have I ever hear of that being a problem with Weigela.

Nope - never had one either here in NW Illinois ------ I sure wish I did!

@ken: Whoa there old timer! Never said that I KNEW they reseeded in Michigan.

I said that I expected that they could/would reseed. After all plants reproduce. And being that weigela are hardy here, I felt it was a reasonable assumption that they could do so in Michigan.

Nice know that won't need be a concern.

I've never seen them reseed here in the Pacific NW and we can grow just about anything. Nurseries reproduce them from cuttings.

I believe it's 'Variegata'. Possibly 'Variegata Nana'. It's not quite three feet high. It's also fairly young. I WISH it would reseed. ;-)

Mike - I found Weigelas really easy to propagate by cuttings. Not far behind Forsythia for simplicity. I just stuck some prunings in the ground in late summer and left them there. I had 'Variegata' in another garden and it started life as a twig from my Dad's neighbour's plant.

I always enjoy your knowledgeable posts.
I will try to propagate it by cuttings this summer and fall. I've propagated a lot of rhododendrons, pieris, and numerous trees by cuttings.

Mike if you rooted Rhodos you should have no problem with these, heck I can even root them!
I had one self sow, I nursed it along for several years, it became a good sized plant , it bloomed and.... wasn't as nice as the mother plant :)

Mike - my w. 'variegata' wasn't shaped well and was too tall for its spot. I made cuttings last June, and they rooted easily as others have said. I planted them in ground in late summer/early fall and all survived the winter without issue.
