What is going on with Green Velvet Boxwood?

| I checked my boxwoods recently to see if there was evidence of psyllids or leafminers. I found a bunch of gnat-like insects that were a light brown flying around the bushes. I also noticed one shrub, pictured below, with a significant amount of browning. This particular shrub faces southwest, so it receives a fair amount of sun year round. I was wondering if this was an insect invastion/problem or simply dead foilage that was new growth perhaps in the fall, but died off in the winter since it was new growth that had not hardened for the winter??? OR, does it look like damage from insects? I sprayed with Bonide Borer Control (also for leafminers) and then, and I hope this is not overkill, used Bayer Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed granules which, supposedly, protects for 12 months.
I used horticultural oil and sprayed each shrub really well about two years ago. I did not see any evidence of psyllids and the leaves were beautiful last year - now this year I had to start the fight again.
So, please give me your assessment and if I treated the shrubs with the proper products. THe lawn center rep suggested the Bonide and I used the Bayer as a precautionary measure since it is supposed to kill for leafminers and psyllids...if, in fact, that is what I had. Oh, I also saw some white residue in the leaves which led me to believe they were leafminers. Thanks to all

| It sure looks like it to me. You can take a damaged leaf and separate the top layer from the bottom. If the adult hasn't emerged yet, you might see the larvae inside. They are large enough to see. I have the same problem. |

| So the brown does not look like winter damage, but result of psyllids or leafminers??? Not finding anything between the leaves. I have found some white dots on some of the leaves. I amnot seeing the brownish gnats flying around the bushes since using the Bonide and Horticultural Oil. |

How do you treat it? I have the same problem. So sad because my shrubs look far worse than yours. Any help would be appreciated. ~boxerpups |
