Large shrub, been on this property forever, so I have been told. I am in SC, am a Yankee, and have no clue what this is. Hopefully I can post is a large shrub, uised to be trimmed, but I have let it grow some, mainly as a privacy hedge....thank you in advance.

Another full-view of same has a light scent to the blooms. Does not produce anything. Not sure what else to add here...ask me questions, please! :-)

RE: Can you ID this?

Looks like Philadelphus, aka mock orange.

Thank you gardengal48. I will Google that. This thing is getting about 7' high in spots. No thorns.

Here is a better pic of the fragrant blooms....wish I could share the wonderful fragrance!

RE: Can you ID this?

It's a Philadelphus. Don't 'trim' it - that's why it's ended up as a blob with few flowers. To prune it for flowering and control you can remove some of the older branches down low, even right to the ground, after flowering. That will produce a regular stream of new wood without sacrificing flowers.

It is a very hardy shrub, so not particularly 'southern'. And if you want more it's very easy from cuttings. Just shove a number of your prunings into the ground in semi shade and ignore them except for making sure they don't dry out. Next year some of them will be young shrubs.
