| I can see the pictures. The leaves are strongly serrated. There is more than one type of Photinia - I suspect this is a Photinia, but perhaps just not the usual one we call "red tip" (Photinia x fraseri). |

| Thanks, esh ga. I think it might be, too, and I know there are several varieties of Photinia out there, but in searching the Internet, I sure can't find one that looks like this. I do have 4 o4 5 Photinia fraseri around my propane tank, growing up as a screen, which I very close to this unknown shrub, so I can easily compare the two. Leaves are very, very different, though. Besides the obvious differences in leaf edge (smooth versus serrated), the leaf on this shrub is much larger, and not as thick and leathery as the fraseri. Patty S. |

| That's it, Dave. Bronze Loquat! Thanks all for figuring out it was a loquat of some sort, and to Dave for identifying the variety. I want to add about 6 or 7 more around the back of my yard. They are so striking. And, they love it here, which is half the battle :-) Patty S. |

| People try them here but I see little indication of them being able to last. We do have older, larger E. japonica in this area - although cold damage was pretty dramatic in 1990. |
