 o
the right Ilex

I moved my little boxwood to a more protected area which had suffered for three years under a bit too much beating sun. I'd like to find a similar bush in this strong summer sun. I'm thinking Ilex. I'm hoping to find an ovate, spineless, dwarf (3-4 feet tall), sun loving, and even toward clay soil tolerant Ilex. The Ilex vomitoria, "Schillings Dwarf" fits perfectly except it goes only up to zone 7. Does an Ilex come to mind for zone 6? I have a Soft Touch Ilex elsewhere in the yard and which I like very much but it is really too small and growing slowly and the leaves are smaller than I'd like for this other sunny location. This is a really specific question, but maybe there is an expert Ilex lover out there! I'm also open to other dense green deciduous suggestions for the same spot.

Look into Ilex glabra 'Shamrock'. It is taller than 'Schillings Dwarf' and the leaves are bigger too.
