Small shrubs needed (Little Henry?)

| I need small shrubs to put at the front of my cement patio. I was going to use Little Henry but if it really gets 3 feet tall that's a little too tall. I want to be able to see my bird feeders in my yard from my porch. Does anyone have any small shrubs they recommend? Another shrub I considered is magic carpet spirea. I want something to put around each corner of my square 12 x12 cement patio. |

| Spirea 'Golden Elf', Weigelia 'Midnite Wine'. |

| Magic Carpet is a good choice. Also Weigela 'My Monet' is really small. But you didn't say how much sun the area gets. That's THE most important part. Do you want evergreen? structure and winter interest. Maybe a small boxwood (Green Velvet, Green Ice), dwarf Pieris (Cavatine, Prelude) color? blooms? Maybe a floral carpet rose... or The Fairy groundcover rose. Azalea? (some stay small) |

Thanks Lacey and Windy. I have almost all sun but I do have a pergola above it that will keep it shaded slightly in the morning. It will get a lot of afternoon sun. I'll check out those ideas. |

| My Monet sounds like a good suggestion |

| Thanks ademink. All these suggestions are great and I'm googling all of them. I have some Weigela's but have never used the Pieris before. |

I checked out all of these shrubs at the locl nursery today. I was really excited about the dwarf Pieris (Prelude)because it is every green, but was told by the people that worked there that it needed partial shade. I have full afternoon sun. Does that sound right? Now am considering the other ideas. All of them are great suggestions. |

| How about dwarf Yaupon holly - Ilex vomitoria 'Nana' (there are a couple of other dwarf forms too). |

| Correct. Pieris need partial-shade. When it was suggested, you hadn't stated your sun situation. The more information you supply in a question, the better answer you get. |

I knew that that you gave me that info, Wendy, before I posted the sun situations but was hoping that the person at the nursery was wrong. I obviously understand that more information is better but inadvertently left that info out at first. I was surprised when I realized that I hadn't specified what was needed. Oh well. It's an interesting plant. Thanks esh ga. I'll check it out. :) Tammy |
