Diervilla Cool Splash- Success in Medium to Heavy Shade?

All the web info says sun to light shade, but has anyone tried it in medium to heavy shade? Thx much.

Mine are in almost total shade and doing fine. The site is also rather dry once the rains subside. Have to keep them watered well if in a dry site till they get established

Nice plant for shade as it brightens things up a tad.

I grew one in mostly shade too. They just don't have as a heavy margin in that exposure.

Here is a grouping in full sun, they had very little green in them.

All of mine really struggled for a full year. On the second year, after a nice pruning in late winter they took off nicely. The pic above is west exposure with mainly all day sun.

Just catching up, thank you! I have mine in marginal area, clayish soil on bank, hoping to use for erosion control. Is the bark supposed to look, odd, at base, like peeling or something?
