Magnolia 'Kiki's Broom'--anybody growing it?

| Magnolias have done very well for me, so when I needed a deer resistant, broad shrub, I decided to try this new to me magnolia. I purchased it this spring from a very fine nursery that I have dealt with for several years, but this seems to be a plant that just won't kick in. It's clearly struggling.
Does anyone have personal experience with it? |
