if they are warrantied .. ask the seller ... but dont let the warranty expire hoping and wishing ..

its rare.. but sometimes it happens with transplants ...

could have been hit with a frost/freeze .. or it could have been dead when you bought it.. and will not dry out until the heat of summer cooks it brown ...

let us know what the seller says .. inquiring minds want to know ...

Thanks Ken. Unfortunately, this was a Superstore buy, and they don't warranty. I won't cry over it because it was only $16 (a god size too, about 2 feet hight), but I may cry over it because I love my plum shrubs!
I may just leave it in the ground since I can't find any DFP at this time of year to replace it. Perhaps a miracle will happen and it will leaf out this summer or next spring. My weeping caragana actually JUST leafed out a week ago. It's been a slow season in Calgary. I have considered cutting the plum back hard to shock it into leafing. Thoughts?

i have had cheap mail order stuff ... not trigger spring growth until almost fall ... but who knows ...

exactly what plum are you talking about.. and why will you keep buying more??
ornamental plums have all kinds of inherent problems.. like black knot.. etc ... and they are short-lived for trees .. etc ...

i can understand loving the purple leaved varieties ... but there are many other things in that color range.. so i suggest you diversify your plants.. or you are going to regret it some day.. when some plum plague rolls thru ..

Diversify? Ha! obviously I've never posted many pics of my garden. if plants were countries my yard is the United Nations summit. I've go a lot of space and I love variety, so I host everything that will grow in my zone. I just love how elegant and cheerful the double flowering plum (Prunus triloba 'Multiplex' - 30 year lifespan in ideal conditions so not short lived)
looks after a long depressing Canadian winter, and they are usually the first to wake up and bloom so they have a certain amount of instant gratification value. No diseases yet knock on wood.... Oh well, I went outside and hacked it down to half it's size, inspired by my other one that got eaten half to death by rabbits over the winter and came back with a vengence I never knew possible.

Those are usually referred to as flowering almonds.
