Ficus shrub

Hi. New to the forum. I had a Ficus shrub that got hit by frost last fall . When I brought it inside, new shoots started to grow, but then suddenly they stopped and all the leaves dropped. Nurtured it through the winter but nothing happened. I am now throwing it out. Question. Could I take one of the roots and try growing another shrub as they look healthy, and what should I do. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Jim

I'd just buy another plant. Ficus (benjamina?) usually responds to changing environments (like reduction in light or other stressors) by dropping leaves.

It might still have recovered but would take a while.
