| Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone could recommend some shrubs that are deer-resistant for an area in the understory of 10-15 foot high hickory trees. Because of the roots of the hickory trees, the soil in this spot is somewhat dry. The area to be planted needs to have some shrubs for screening purposes, due to a neighbor's construction project that involved heavy deforestation on their side of the property line. The general land area is also populated by a herd of (approximately twelve) deer. Zone 6b, New England inland. Upland oak/hickory forest area. Loamy soil over ledge rock. U.S. native or non-native shrubs are both OK. Thanks in advance! |

| Viburnum rhytidophyllum cultivars would work, but I would keep them sprayed just to be sure. And net them the first couple of winters. |

| Diervilla lonicera does well in those situations. Marshall |

| Hmm, deer eat Diervilla here. |
