 o
privacy - bushes, shrubs, etc... suggestions?

I'm sure alot of people are in the same situation so we thought we'd try for some advice regarding our little gardening issue. We need some bushes or shrubs that will grow fairly fast, thick and wide that will provide privacy but grow well with minimal care, but be somewhat attractive but "not" a vine (home owners issues), should grow at least 4' but not more than 6' tall. We'd like it to be able to be compatible with the southern california weather and soil (clayish) where it would be able to survive and be fairly evergreen. Is there any that are would fit our needs? or is this mission improbable?

What about a fence?

most things do not stop growing at some magical height..

as such.. that requirement.. plus the idea that they be 'minimal in care' are going to severely limit your options ..

will you be willing to maintain them with some pruning.. or not ...????

if you are willing.. to cut them one or twice a year ... couple hours of work??? .. then there will be many more opportunities ...

and if you are not willing to invest some time.. then the fence is the way to go ... or is that a HOA issue also?

Fast growing for privacy in my area (PNW) are Lavatera (tree type), Buddleia, and Bamboo. You would have to prune the first two to maintain 6' height and choose a bamboo of that height. There are probably more things that would work in S.Cal.
