something eating my serviceberry

I've got a row of serviceberries ... probably 4 feet tall. Something has chomped on them this summer, doing pretty severe damage. I presume it's rabbits, though I didn't think they usually ate woody growth during the summer. Could that be the culprit? What should I do now? Just leave them be? Maybe prune them back hard to encourage new growth?

thanks.
