Is this a weed or a shrub?

I have this growing in the yard of the home we just bought. The stems are almost woody. The leaves are green until up to the tips of the plant, where they turn a reddish color. It has made its way through a crack in the wall and is growing up on the sidewalk above the yard. Even the small stem that is growing out of the sidewalk can't be pulled out by hand. I have tried finding it on others sites, but no such luck!
