Trouble with Midnight Fire

I have several midwinter's fire shrubs that were planted 3 or 4 years ago. They were gorgeous this winter and all looked very healthy in March. This week I noticed that the tips of several twigs are browned and dead. No obvious signs of insects, it's been a wet spring.... Any ideas?

What are they? We need the genus at least. The name of the cultivar isn't sufficient identification.

It's Cornus sanguinea, 'Midwinter Fire'.
They like wet places.
Zone 10? Where are you?
The tips shouldn't be a problem. They are usually pruned back rather hard to get the red branches in winter.
