I like Bill Cullina's description of this shrub's flowers:

Early in Spring, just as the leaf buds are beginning to expand, little tubular flowers with protruding stamens poke out from between the bud scales and hang down like little, chartreuse earrings......it lacks the "container appeal" so important in our modern day cash-and-carry nursery business, and I imagine this partially explains its scarcity in the trade.

Neutral soils, understory native, can you name it?
