Thanks for the response I like both ideas, I can use the crape myrtle in the south facing church flower bed and the hydrangea at the city library.

I have the same situation and can not plant roses. I did not think that dwarf crape myrtle was hardy enough for 6a. I see it in 6b, but not in the high elevation 6a of the NC mountains. Are you growing it in zone 5, Aegis500?
