Can I trim back severely overgrown bushes??

I apologize for posting this in different forums. I didn't know there was a "shrub" forum until someone pointed it out to me. Anyhow, see my link below. I'm wondering if I can trim the large bushes (shown in link) back to around 2 1/2ft or so and whether they'll grow back?? If so, how long before they would start looking decent again? Thanks in advance.

As mentioned in the previous posts on your link, they are yews (Taxus sp.) and they tolerate hard pruning better than many shrubs. You can even cut them back nearly to ground level and they will come back better than ever. But it is not a fast process :-) May take a couple of seasons before they look very good. I might consider filling in with something seasonal to disguise their appearance, at least during the main growing season (summer months).
