HELP - barberry suddenly shedding all leaves - why?

Lauril Rohde

The first two crimson barberry bushes [about 9-10 years old] at the beginning of 2 different borders - one on each side of a stairway have suddenly dropped all their leaves. I thought the leaves had a bit of white around the edges, so sprayed with a fungicide, not copper sulfate like Bionide. Now today the next bushes in each row are also starting to denude with leaves crinkling up and falling off.

The weather here has been weird. Long stretch of cool, cloudy days with a few sprinkles here and there - then two days of blasting hot, dry winds - then this last week of more cloudy, cool, and this time rainy days.

As a side note. My geraniums had leaves starting to get a white film around the edges. Have never seen this before. Fungicide cured that.

Please help. I do not relish the idea of rows of denuded bushes.
