| If I am not mistaken that red one has been reclassified and is now just a different variety Michelia figo var. crassipes, not a different species Michelia crassipes as in the past. Darn taxonomists. |

| cearbhaill, thank you for the clarification. I don't know if I can change the first post, but let me acknowledge the correction. The two are almost identical though, so it makes sense that they are the same thing. |

| Michelia was being placed under Magnolia by 1988, various authors have adopted this since. |
