| I am looking for a dwarf shrub to go in front of some large miscanthus 'Cabaret' and was wondering if some dwarf barberry varieties would work.
Are there any smaller varieties then 'crimson pygmy'? The tags say 24" but mine get well over 3-4' if I don't prune them back twice a year. I'm really looking for something VERY slow growing. |

| More than one major wholesale nursery has come up with multiple tight little Japanese barberry hummocks with purple leaves in recent years. Even though the species is a weed in the East. Lack of fruit production is sometimes claimed for these extreme dwarfs. Visit local independent garden centers to see what they have. |
