 o
yew hedge trimming question

I have a tall yew hedge along the entire length of my property. There are at least 150 in a row. They're about 8 ft tall in most places, and getting taller. I had let it grow to a more natural looking hedge by hand pruning for the past 5 yrs. I was thinking of going back to shearing it, but the front of my yard is about 3 ft higher than the back. I don't know what line to follow for the top. Should I make a perfectly horizontal line to follow? That would make the back hedge much taller than the front. Or should I make them all the same height, which would make the hedge go uphill?

RE: yew hedge trimming question

take your favorite chair.. in your favored position .. and make the ultimate decision ... often adult beverages help you assume the zen .. lol ...

in my world.. having grown up in a perfectly horizontal world [dad's choice] .. i have come to appreciate that there are really no straight lines in nature ... its an anathema to me ... [that and i hate.. with a passion.. shearing shrubs [dad again..lol]] ...

i dont understand.. where you could sit.. where you would see both the front and the back at the same time ... [unless you have eyes in the back of your head... so i dont understand why they would have to be consistent ...

each garden view .. should be different than the other .. IMHO ... which is another way of saying ... variety is the spice of life ...

shear one if that is your dream.. and let the other be more natural ... beyond that.. how the heck do we know what will please you ... apparently.. you will change your mind after a few years.. lol .... why is the natural form you have been working on.. now disfavored?????
