Wrongly pruned Prunus tomentosa

Yesterday we got a Prunus tomentosa (Nanking/Manchu cherry) on clearance from the nursery. The reason it was put on sale was that the staff pruned the wrong branch, leaving the shrub almost topless.

Any inputs on how to encourage the shrub to grow upward? Thanks.

on a new transplant..prune nothing until next year... let it get some root mass growing .. before we cut off all the energy making leaves ....

from the pic.. i can NOT see whats below the bad stuff.. if there is a branch of two.. i might cut off everything above them ... and let those 2 regenerate the plant ...

and if i wanted it more upright.. i might cut those back until they can support their own weight...

New growth will grow upward on its own.
