Trunk and stems of Rhodis are yellow brown red.. Why?

Just bought 6 Rhodis. Leaves are green and lush with an occational red splotch. My concern is the bottom of the trunk of the plant where all the stems branch out from are various yellow brown and red color. the bark seems a bit split and when i scrape it back to see inside its white color underneath. Is my plant cureable or should they go back?

Perhaps normal aging of the wood?

an image would help us know for certain.
