Yellowing leaves on Indian Hawthorne

An established Indian Hawthorne suddenly yellowed and is just about dead now. This all happenened within a time frame of about two weeks. It is one of more than 2 dozen Hawthornes planted two years ago. None of the other Hawthornes has suffered like that.

It did not seem to exhibit green veins like you'd expect if it were from iron deficiency. The primary difference between this hawthorne and the others is that it probably gets the most sun...possibly all day. So it may be drier than the others. It has been very dry here in north Texas over the last two months and the soil here is alkaline.

Any other ideas what this disease may be and how to treat it?
