| Know it wasnt the ideal time to plant, but we did plant 40 loropetalum shrubs ( 3 gallon buckets from a reputable nursery) in late June. Keeping them watered, nice and mulched. We planted in the hole a small scoop of triple phosphate to get the roots a jump start. They dont look like they are dying, but they dont look happy.
Questions: How long before the roots take hold? Can we spray the leaves with something like "Wilt Pruf" to keep them from dropping OR ADD A FERTILIZER TO THE SOIL? Any other suggestions to insure their success? By the way, we have had temps higher than average here in SC, HOT, HUMID AND LITTLE RAIN. Thanks in advance for any help! Dina in Pickens |

| Stress causes plants to drop their leaves and enter dormancy early. Extreme heat and dryness are the most likely causes in your particular case. Your main objective should be survival of the roots, so keep up the watering. WiltPruf will do no good and adding fertilizer has the potential to cause a good deal of harm. Chances are your plants will be fine once cooler weather arrives. They may even put out a set of new leaves. |
