Viburnum Mohican Growth

I have a Viburnum Mohican in my front yard, which has been under some problem for the last 2 years. It was actually installed in 2007 but never did well enough. During last two years, few of its brances started getting kind of rust at the bottom from where the branches shoot up from ground. One by One all of the branches died and now I am left with only one branch which has few sub branches shooting out of it. The leaves are all green and some new leaves are growing. My question is since this viburnum had multiple branches and now only one main branch left which is not thick enough probably two inches in diameter and about 3-4 feet tall. Will this viburnum get more bracnhes shooting out from the ground or the only branch I am left with will grow thick to become main branch for this shrub & it will have more branches shooting out of the main branch.

I am not sure if I should dig it out & replace it with another shrub. The soil is mostly clay. Thank you for reading my question about Viburnum Mohican.

did you plant it???

w/o a pic.. its hard .. to speculate much

i wonder if it was planted too deep way back when .. and with clay.. whether the trunk is being kept to wet ...

a lot of clay peeps actually plant on the high side.. and then mound a bit.. to offset the inherent problems with a heavy clay soil ...

and what do you mean when you say 'installed' ... to me .. that infers someone else did it .. was if ball and burlap.. was the burlap removed... etc ... was the hole amended ...

aw heck.. dan's default number one.. not enough info ...

as to whether you should divest.. thats up to you.. it should be a pretty vigorous plant.. and i dont know how many years i would mess with one that seems to be under-performing the way yours is ..

RE: Viburnum Mohican Growth

Ken, Thank you for your response. Actually the shrub was planted by a landscaper, it was balled & burlaped, the burlap might not have been removed completely as I did saw it around the trunk when the shrub was put in place by the landscaper. It was a new hole with new soil as the house was build new 4 years back. So far I have seen, the soil is mostly clay & do not think it was amended. The place where the shrub is might not have enough soil as one side of it is the driveway & on three sides of it is concrete blocks; part of steps/walkway going inside the house. It is by the entrance door of the house. I will try to take a pic of it & load it. Thanks.
