I planted some new shrubs and perennials today. Stupidly enough, I did not read the instructions until I was done planting. I dug a hole about the same size as the pot the plant came in and put the root ball in it after loosening it a bit. I covered it with garden soil mix and mulch, watered it plenty. Then I realize that I should have dug the holes twice as big, prepared the soil before putting in the plants. Now my question is, should I dig them out and replant them in larger holes filled with compost and garden soil or should I let them be and see what happens? I spent quite a bit of money and time on this project and don't want to see them all wasted! Thanks for your suggestions!

Plant with same soil inside of hole as around it, without putting amendments in the hole. Amending of planting holes tends to produce problems with how water enters and exits the planting hole.

Lots of unknown variables here, but, without more info, I'd say replant (especially since you said you had quite a bit of money and time involved). The link below will give you good info about planting your shrubs.
