Ninebark Diablo

I just bought this and was wondering if anyone else has this large tree like shrub. It says that it needs full sun but I was wondering if I could put it on the West side of my house, but it would get mostly afternoon sunlight. It gets light most of all day but I think it is more indirect light. It is tough to judge where the light is because the sun has shifted because it is August(and it is a cloudy day so everything looks like it gets sun as there are no real shadows today). I have a flower bed that was getting almost 10 hours of sunlight that is now lucky to get 7.

I was also wondering just how big this really gets? It says 10' but I am in the North and wondered if it didn't get as big.

I'm in zone 5, Milwaukee area, the biggest one I've seen was about 7 X 6.

I wouldn't worry about the size as its pruned easily. Its actually tolerates light shade, just might not be as purple.

My brother had one (also in Milwaukee) on the north-west side of his house. It was near a downspout and got to 9' tall with good color. Your spot should be fine.

RE: Ninebark Diablo

I have one in a northern (!) exposure and it's very healthy. Few flowers, but healthy and growing.
