Dappled Willow-Pink?

I have had my dappled willow in full sun for a few years and the new growth is green with some blotches of white. I cut it down to about 1 foot in the spring and later on in the summer and still the new growth is not pink. I've also let it grow to about 4-5 feet in another location and had the same issue. It get's plenty of water and lately I have been hitting it with Holytone hoping the acidity would help it absorb more iron. Is it possible that mine is a dud? I'm stumped!

Excessive heat and/or sun can reduce the amount of variegation this shrub produces. As will pruning back during the growing season. A cooler, shadier location might encourage more intense new growth color and limit pruning to late winter or very early spring.

FWIW, the heavy pink or white variegation doesn't last very long regardless. As the foliage matures during the growing season, it will become pretty much a solid green. It is only the newest growth that displays the most variegation.
