When to trim shrubs

I have 15 evergreen shrubs in front of my house. Now, end of August, they need trimming. They look really shabby. When is the best time to trim them? It will be very warm here for the next 2 1/2 months. What would happen if I trim them now? They are mostly boxwood & yew.

The best time to do any major pruning would be early spring, just before growth really takes off. If needed, you can prune again in mid summer. I don't usually do major pruning this late in the season.
