I've got a 40' berm that had 6 double-file shasta viburnum on it as a privacy screen on a south facing full sun location. They did exactly what we wanted for awhile, grew to maturity within 3 years and formed a dense screen without getting too tall. Plus they were very attractive, nice foliage with blooms and berries to boot.

Unfortunately, we've had really bad weather last two years - extremely heavy rain in May & June, followed by drought in July & August. Three of the six had to come out last fall, and now the last three mature ones are succumbing this summer.

After some research it looks like verticulum wilt is the culprit. As much as I like these viburnum, it's just the wrong plant for this spot.

Any suggestions on what might like these conditions? We're open to deciduous or evergreen, but would like a dense screen from ground level that will fill in rather quickly without getting more than 10' tall.
