Sorry that happened! Just push it back in the right position, re-arranging the soil how it was as much as possible. You probably couldn't kill it that easily if you were trying.

It seems weird that your boxwoods would be uprooted by such an accident. Were they newly planted (sounds very possible with them being only a foot tall)? What type of soil are they in? If plants are potbound and the situation is not properly addressed at planting, root systems may not develop properly. I wonder if something like that has played a part in this event.

...but, I agree with purpleinopp that you probably should, at this point, just fix the soil back as well as possible, keep the plants well (properly) watered for the next year, and expect (hope for) them to be fine.

I was wondering that too, Brandon, why did it pop out like that? We hooked one up to a truck and tried to pull it out but that didn't work. It broke off, those roots weren't letting go that easily. Another one I tried an easier approach - chopped it all off & put a black nursery pot on it upside-down. Then a drain saucer so light wasn't coming in the holes. It finally died after 2 years under there.
