Many pomegranates can do well even in relatively non-hot-and-dry locations. I grow over a dozen cultivars here in Tennessee. We have been hot lately (this summer has been a scorcher), but we are in zone 7a (formerly, 6b). Knoxville is traditionally pretty wet too, with an average annual precipitation of 48 inches. Most of my poms are still young, so I don't yet know a lot about what fruit production will be like. My 'Wonderful' cultivar (my oldest tree) produced a few fruits last year. My other cultivars have probably got another year or two until I get anything more than tiny fruits.

do the regular dwarfs found at just about any online store actually have good fruit,worth buying for one like me that grows in pots un here in New England?

Is it possible to get a tree like this with delicious fruit for my situation? I also have a small greenhouse.

Meyermike, this dwarf variety is strictly an ornamental, you don't even notice the tiny fruits. This one is planted among some arid loving plants (lavender, rosemary, hardy cacti and succulucents, figs, eucalyptus, etc.). It's seasonally attractive both in terms of flowers and shiny leaves and also a conversation piece. The dwarf is said to cold hardier than the standard variety. Will probably eventually plant the fruiting one---SOMEWHERE. Maybe will start some from seed. I love plants that are rich in folklore, mythology, or medicinal value, and this is one of them! I like juice from them, not so much the fruit. The reason I posted it on the Citrus forum was, if you go into most any Chinatown, you will notice some standard plants that the Chinese love, one is Citrus and the other is pomegranate. This variety by the way, is usually made into a bonsai. Ground hardy to probably 6b if not slight lower with snow. Dig hole, drop plant into hole and it grows and flowers every year. My kind of plant. I am due for another visit to Chinatown for more unusual plants.
