oops sounds like grafted plants where the rootstocks (not curly) have taken over! They are beautiful, though!

Yes...I was told you must keep up on pruning away those suckers. The nursery gave a good example of a tree that was a purple leafed tree grafted onto another. Well when green suckers/leaders popped up they never pruned them off...and the once purple tree is mostly green now from the grafted plant. (This in our local town's landscape)

Though...yours is quite pretty! Love the lights!!! As mentioned it seems magical!

The root stock will favor the root stock sprouts over the grafted wood.

You might check to see if it is a hazel nut stock and then find out what gender. If you plant the other, you may get hazel nuts..

THat would be cool. Imagine delicious hazelnuts falling from your Walking Stick growing around your gate.
In any case, I like the look too. It's beautiful.
Now see, if you had tried to purposly accomplish that, it wouldn't have grown as nice. LOL
