Hakuro-nishiki Dappled Willow

I planted one two or three years ago. I must have put it in an optimal location, because it grows to 12' or beyond each year. It is magnificent, but absolutely overwhelming for the location.

I cut it back to the ground each year. My question is, how often can I cut it back though the growing season without damaging the shrub or creating an unsightly mess? I would like to keep it to about 6' so that it will be in proportion to surrounding trees, and not block light.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
