| I planted one two or three years ago. I must have put it in an optimal location, because it grows to 12' or beyond each year. It is magnificent, but absolutely overwhelming for the location.
I cut it back to the ground each year. My question is, how often can I cut it back though the growing season without damaging the shrub or creating an unsightly mess? I would like to keep it to about 6' so that it will be in proportion to surrounding trees, and not block light. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| if it is 'absolutely overwhelming for the location. ' then get rid of it .... otherwise.. keep hacking at it.. as you wish.. and let us know.. how much is too much.. but being a willow ... i would GUESS ... you wont be able to kill the thing ... ken |

| I agree with Ken, definitely willows are hard to kill...and given what you are describing you should probably prune it as often as needed to make it work in the space. If it kills it, so be it because it sounds like the alternative is to rip it out (also an option of course, moving it in early Spring to a location where it works). |

| I did more reading online, where I found that it can be cut back every 4-6 weeks. I cut it by 50% and it's doing beautifully. |
