| Hi! I was sent here from the Woodlands forum. I'm in northeast Tallahassee, Florida and there is an area of my yard that I would like to use large, dense shrubs in a shaded area to create a woodland type area. The area has 3 large pines, 2 oaks, a few bradford pears and a magnolia. There isn't much grass. Can anyone suggest shrubs that might work in this area? I would love to be able to incorporate shrubs that would provide flowers or some type of color.
I have pics of various times of day but can't figure out how to post them. Thanks! |

| There are a lot of shrubs for your area appropriate to light or partial shade - hydrangeas, camellias, clethra, azaleas, gardenia and aucuba are a few possible choices. Visit a good local garden center or retail nursery to see what's available. |

| "I have pics of various times of day but can't figure out how to post them." One of the easiest ways to provide your photo to be embedded into a post is to upload it onto an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, etc. Once your picture has been uploaded, find its web address by right clicking on the image and copying the image location. Some sites may provide the address in a text box below the photo for your convenience. Let's say the address of the picture you want to post is http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg To embed the picture into a post, use the command Maybe if you post a picture or two, someone will have a creative idea about what to plant. |

| I love your yard! It looks so cool, inviting, and peaceful. I'll embed your pictures into the thread for easy access. There are sooo many options available in Gardengal's recommendations, and, like she said, maybe your local nurseries would have even more ideas.

| Brandon7, thanks for the compliments! Actually, that back corner is an eyesore for me and the cars going by aren't so peaceful! But, to the left, outside the picture, is a small lake that makes it all worthwhile! My dear hubby takes great pride in keeping his St. Augustine grass trimmed and I love it right after it's mowed. But, there is so much grass and it takes up so much of his time, I would like to put in some gardens around the edges and azaleas in front and between the pines in the pics so there is less mowing time. |
