What is this shrub?

Hi,

I bought an unmarked shrub at the garden center and no one there could tell me what it was. I heard lilac and spirea, but I think it is a hydrangea, but I'd like to know which one. If anyone could tell me, it would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Here is a link that might be useful: Name that Shrub!

The pictures I took aren't the best, so I thought I'd add that the shrub has yellow-green serrated leaves and pink buds that open to creamy white flowers.

P. type Hydrangea...maybe quickfire.

"P. type hydrangea" means Hydrangea paniculata, which is blooming now in my area too.

Has Quickfire's red stems.
If the flowers gradually turn red,
that's what I'd say it is.
It's a sun-tolerant hydrangea.

Does quick fire have pink buds and pink centers on the flowers when the flowers are still white?

RE: What is this shrub?

The buds might appear pink, the centers are not pink at first but over 1 - 2 weeks they will start to turn pink.

The more I look at the stems, you may have Pink Diamond Hydrangea. The stems aren't red enough to be Quickfire on such a young plant.

Are you really in Zone 1a? If so if you plan to keep this plant outside over winter it will cash out.

We had young Quickfires at our garden center this season, and the stems were distinctly red. They all sold before the buds opened fully, so I can't answer the early flower color question ... just watch and see if they turn red with maturity.

Thanks guys! Whaas, we are technically 1a, some even say 0b, but because of the very generous snow cover we get, we can plant up to zone 4 depending on the wind protection the plant will get etc.

I have to ask, lilies and roses, where on this continent is a zone 1a? Or for that matter, where in the world? Seriously, I need to look at a map to even imagine somewhere that cold outside of the Arctic Circle or the top of Mt. Washington.

I get cold thinking about it!
Marie who would rather live in zone 6.

Have you changed the pictures on photobucket? The ones I see are clearly roses, not hydrangeas.

Cool! Its a morphing Hydrangea! lol.

I sure hope the morphing hydrangea smells great too! Hee hee hee!

I LOVE my quickfire hydrangea & if I saw the right photos, that's not one. My quickfire does not have serrated leaves.

Looks like a rose to me too,I don't think Hydrangers have serrated leaves either.
